Armlock From Back Control

Recently once again, Demian Maia put on a jiu jitsu clinic in UFC 198. He controlled the grappling with relative ease and was dominant on Matt Brown’s back for a majority of the fight.  He twice went for an armlock from the back control position, but Brown was able to counter and neutralize his attempts.  Demian is truly a master of BJJ for fighting and has proven it time and time again.  His two failed attempts were most likely the result of being up against the cage, leaving very little room to move backwards and create the space necessary to use the concepts in this video.  Nonetheless, this leaves us with a valuable opportunity to discuss why and how to secure that armlock in hopes that our opponents do not escape.
